Appliction Instructions

Surface Preparations:

Unpainted Steel - Metal must be clean and dry. Depending on condition, surface should be blasted per SSPC-SP-5-63 white metal blast, or properly cleaned. Blast profile should be 1.5-1.8 mil maximum. Priming should follow immediately.

Unpainted Aluminum - Contamination and oxide should be removed by either blasting to a 1.5 mil profile or chemically cleaned and treated with products such as Amchem Alumiprep 33 followed by Alodine 1200-1201. Follow manufacturer recommendations. Prime immediately.

Fiberglass/Gelcoat - Clean thoroughly with ECFA-12-881 or ECFA-12-876 thinner. Surface must be free of wax and release compounds. Sand lightly to develop profile with 280-320 paper. Prime immediately with marine type primer.

Previously Painted Surfaces - Surface should be clean and free from all wax, grease, and road grime. All loose paint or rust should be removed by sanding or grinding. Surface repair should be done prior to priming. Prime all bare areas, allowing 1-2 hours before re-coating. Tack rag the entire surface and prime immediately. TEST A SMALL AREA TO INSURE NO LOSS OF ADHESION OF LIFTING OF OLD PAINT, OR OTHER SURFACE DEFECTS.

NOTE: If primer and/or topcoat lift old paint on a test spot, it will be necessary to completely strip and proceed as with bare metal.

Top Coating:

Mix 1 part ECLC 12-898 Activator (by volume) with 4 parts URAC® II Base. Let stand for 15 minutes. If necessay reduce to 20-25 secs. #2 Zahn with ECFA-18-720 Reducer or SEFA-402 Slow Reducer and apply. Use 40-50 lbs. atomizing air and check spray pattern. Adjust if necessary. Apply one wet coat of URAC® II and allow to flash 20-25 minutes. Then apply a second full coat. Metallics may require a third pass. ALLOW TO CURE OVERNIGHT OR FORCE 30-35 MINUTES AT 180-190° F BEFORE PUTTING INTO SERVICE.

For faster taping and time to service, add 2 oz. of ECFA-12-882 Accelerator per gallon. When spraying at elevated temperature, SEFA 402 Slow Reducer may be required.

Touch up and Spot Repair:

Sand the area to be repaired. Clean the area with solvent, dry and tack rag. Activate URAC® II as above and reduce slightly. Spray at 30-35# atomizing air with a pattern that fits the size of the repair area. Apply two to three passes of reduced URAC® II to the area, allowing flash time between coats. Extend each coat slightly beyond the previous one. Next activate 4 parts of ECLC-12-779 Clear URAC® II Base with 1 part of ECLC-12-898 Activator and reduce with 7-8 parts recommended reducer. Adjust air pressure to 25-30# atomizing air, restricting the fluid feed to a fine mist. Apply a light blending coat to the overspray areas, flash and following with one or two more in the same manner. If, after cure, the overspray areas show a slight hazy appearance, polish the area with a wax free polish. DO NOT RUB WITH COMPOUND.
