SZFA-25-542 ZINC RICH PRIMER

This is an outstanding single component organic zinc rich primer for steel. Combines the resistance properties of epoxy and the galvanic protection of zinc. Provides maximum corrosion and sag resistance properties.

Type

Pure zinc epoxy base one package primer.

Intended Uses:

Coastal and marine exposures, refineries, water treatment plants, chemical plants, pulp and paper facilities and general heavy maintenance. Touch up and repair of inorganic zinc coatings and galvanized metal.

Limitations:

Not recommended for immersion in acids or alkalis, continuous immersion in fresh or salt water un- top coated or immersion in solvents. Must be top coated for atmospheric service other than pH range of 6.5-8.0

Topcoats:

Catalyzed epoxies, coal tar epoxy, vinyls, phenolics, acrylics, chlorinated rubbers and urethanes.

Application Instructions:

Surface Preparation:

New Steel - Surface must be dry and free of contamination. Remove all weld spatter and grind all rough welds and sharp edges to smooth contour. For severe exposure (immersion, chemicals, etc) near-white blast clean per SSPC SP 10-63T. For other exposures blast clean per SSPC SP 6-63 to a maximum of 1.5 mils.

Previously Painted Surfaces - Must be free of oil, grease and other contamination. Best results, spot blast exposed areas to be painted. Power tool brushing may be used minor touch up.

Spraying:

Surface shall be dry, 5° F above dew point with air temperatures greater than 50° F. Must be free of rust bloom. For air atomized spray, reduce 10-20% with 100 flash Aromatic Solvent, or Xylol for improved atomization. Fluid tips of .070" and air caps delivering 9-10 CFM at 30 PSI are acceptable. A 3/8" to 1/2" material hose is recommended. For airless spray, use .023-029 tips with 900-1800# fluid pressure. Materials should be kept under constant slow speed agitation during use. Double lap all welds, seams, corners, and edges to insure proper film thickness. Make even, parallel passes with 50% overlap to provide uniformity.

Safety:

Proper precautions should be taken to assure operator protection, including explosion-proof electrical fixtures when applied indoors.
